Whitianga Beachcare Group
Mercury Bay Environmental Trust coordinates the local Coastcare group of volunteers who undertake weeding, planting and general dune maintenance along Buffalo Beach. The trust also supports dune restoration on other east coast beaches, helping to run planting days and providing them with plants they grow and source locally.
The trust is always keen to hear from people who are keen to help volunteer with dune restoration, particularly weeding as that is a never-ending battle.
2023 restoration and planting season wrap-up
The trust is slowly getting more help with dune restoration efforts, and the plantings have been successful with minimal loss.
